Most of the important fields of our everyday life are by one or other way standardized. The reason for that is to regulate the market of goods and services in order to minimize the possible harm to customers and environment. It is clear that when all the standards are met then everyone knows what to expect and potential damage due to unforeseen developments is minimal.

Similarly to other standardized fields also the use of thermoplastics is standardized – including manufacturing of thermoplastic pipes, quality control and marking of the product etc. Also the rules and functions for static calculations have been set forward, different types of welding procedures are described. Many international standards are also in local use. To many of them national standard’s status is given, others are used as a reference. But still there are quite many important standards and guidelines that are not used for reference today. The latter include for example DVS 2207 (German standard that’s different parts describe the methods of welding of thermoplastic materials) and ATV-DVWK-A 127E (German guidelines for static calculations of drains and sewers) and many more.
